Biorefinery concept and ecosystem services of a territory: an exploration within an agricultural region

Agricultural regions begin to be interesting from the point of view of agro resources use in producing, among others, biofuels, biomaterials and other valuable outputs. Biorefinery concept is developed in line with this idea. Direct connection the industrial with agricultural systems creates the threat to understate of value of the last one, mainly due to missing of the value – biophysical and economic – of services provided by such agricultural ecosystem. This paper proposes exploratory assessment of capacity of an agricultural region with present and planned biorefineries to provide ecosystem services.
