Résumé

Impact on the overall energy consumption is directly influenced by human activities at a global scale. This tendency and upward shift in energy consumption and therefore production leads to a non sustainable use of natural resources (mainly fossil) and an everincreasing production of waste due to an overconsumption and lack of meaningful information. Urban areas, where the majority of the world population lives, have to deal with many environmental problems particularly in emerging countries. These countries face extremely important and critical economic, demographic and environmental challenges. At the same time, the development of information and communication technologies such as Smart Grids offer new perspectives, opportunities and tools to meet these challenges. These infrastructures allow to consider a better use of resources by providing an optimization of the production, distribution and consumption of electrical energy especially in urban areas, to manage both energy and the data streams in order to support new services and consumption patterns. Human and non-human daily activities generate an increasing amount of data and these activities also involve direct and indirect consumption of energy largely unseen to the end user. Unfortunately, Smart Grids infrastructures quickly reach their limits in the effective exploitation of these massive data. Indeed, they are not able to capture, analyse and visualise effectively the flow of information reflecting nexus of daily discontinued activities, to help actors in these urban areas to better understand how they can influence their behaviours and lifestyles based on these information, to meet the challenges of sustainability. The content of this chapter presents an innovative approach that aims to explore how to facilitate the decisionmaking process for users about their sustainable practices and lifestyles to optimise the daily production and consumption of energy and meet the challenges of energy access and ecological transition. This chapter will first present the context, key concepts, the current gaps and a review of the literature on key terms and main theories. We focus in the following section on the theoretical approach (Agencement, Complex Simplicial...) as well as the tools and technologies that allow us in this innovative approach to identify, analyse and promote sustainable practices of users in Smart Cities using data streams providing by intelligent networks such Smart Grids. For this last point and to illustrate our research work with an empirical case, we use a simulation tool (3DExperienCity from Dassault System), with Virtual City Virtual Models called Virtual Shanghai Model (VSM) which give us the opportunity to integrate sustainable practices in a 3D environment and follow their transformations and interactions in virtual environment. Finally, this chapter concludes with an overview of further investigation, perspectives and some reflections.
