Life Cycle Assessment of bio-based composite

Résumé

The use of natural materials in the creation of new composites has increased this past decade. The use of plant components is one of the ways to reduce the use of non-renewable resources. Natural fibres are known as a composite reinforcement, possibly an alternative to glass or carbon fibres. This study is part of a project where industries from transport and furniture sector seek for a natural-fibre reinforced composite, where the matrix is also bio-based. This work aims to use comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) to conclude on the benefits and weak points of replacing a non-renewable composite to this novel renewable one. This paper presents the first simulation results.
