Dictionary of Elementary Effects: a New Approach for Supporting the Formulation of Validated Functional Performance Specification in Earlier Design Phase

Résumé

The present study aims at working out a design framework based on a functional approach to help designers both in expressing the needs of customers and in incorporating environmental considerations as earlier as possible in the product design process. To help the designer in defining the functional specification by integrating environmental considerations, a new functional methodology named Dictionary of Elementary Effects (DELEE) is proposed. DELEE is a useful functional approach to help designers finding quantitative and qualitative criteria in order to achieve the functional specification. An application of DELEE to a mechanical product is also presented in the paper.
