Ultracompact metamaterials-based polarization converter for photonics at telecom wavelength

Résumé

We present a compact component for nanophotonic applications which main purpose is to rotate light's polarization inside SOI guiding structures (Silicon on Insulator). The device operates at 1,55 microns, and its total length is shorter than that wavelength. Its behavior is characterized through 3D FDTD simulations, and its efficiency is studied in the case where it is crafted on top of a planar waveguide and when the waveguide has a finite width. The physical origin of that rotation effect is discussed.
