Towards an optimization methodology of a rough forged part taking into account ductile damage

Abstract

While nowadays forged pieces are most of time subcontracted; forging specialists can define themselves the geometry of the rough forged. For doing such, they have to consider two major criteria’s: a correct filling and no damage apparition. This paper, will first introduce two automatic procedures, aimed to test the filling by comparing geometry of the rough forged and the machined forged part while keeping damage out of the forged part. Then, a semi automatic optimization method will be described. This method will be used to study the effect of the principal geometric parameters on the forging energy with the constraint of maximal value of damage to be kept out of the final machined part. Our final goal, out of the scope of this presentation, will be to use the identified parameters in an automatic optimization loop.
